Principal's Message:

What a wonderful month we had in February as we all shared in the adventures of Chester, Harry and Mario in
The Cricket in Times Square.  Thank you to all of the families as we were able to spend time together reading a book as a school and as a district.  Thank you so much to all of the staff who took part in creating videos, singing songs, dancing, taking pictures, developing trivia questions and handing out prizes.  Thank you to all the students who took part in each of the homework assignments including Making a Postcard, the Pagoda Assignment, Skype Night, and the Time Magazine assignment. Finally, thank you to our PTO for sponsoring a Chic-Fil-A night as a culminating activity where students were able to share a family evening out, color a cricket and have a meal together as we brought the One District, One Book endeavor to a close for this year.

March is here and spring is just around the corner! To all our parents, thank you so much for your involvement throughout the entire school year and especially in the past month. We have seen you for parent conferences, spring pictures, Barnes/Noble Book Fair, Bingo Night, and our Roller Skating party.  Thank you for helping to maintain skills with students in both math and reading throughout the inconsistency that typically comes this time of year due to weather.  Unfortunately, this is a variable none of us can control.  We also want to thank the PTO for all the extra volunteer hours to facilitate events as well as the funds they continue to raise to ensure that our students have wonderful experiences, affordable field trips, and interactive assemblies at Silver Spring.

For the rest of March and into April, we once again invite you to participate in events occurring both during and after school.  We look forward to Kindergarten Registration, Science Fair, 4th grade field trip, and our Father/Daughter Dance as well as PSSA testing and spring break coming early in April.  While we approach the final turn, I encourage you to promote the many avenues where you can support your child to continue to meet with success as the year moves forward.

Parental involvement is a key component to the educational success of a child and we thank you for your presence, your dedication, and your continued support of the academic program.  Being a father of four myself, I cannot stress enough the importance of spending quality time with your children as our time with them can so quickly fade, here today and gone tomorrow. Look for those moments where you can give a word to encourage to with which to teach a lasting trait. The process is long and enduring, but the rewards last a lifetime.  Remember parenting is not a sprint, but rather a marathon.  We thank you for your support!
